NYSCA GRANT for Happenings in Poland!

I am so excited to be a recipient of a Support for Artists Grant from NYSCA to support the multimedia performance/film/video project - "Happenings in Poland: Restaging of a Childhood Play." It revisits a play, written and presented by my grandmother in 1921 as a 16-year-old immigrant in New York's Henry Street Settlement youth program -- a story that takes place between two nearly vanished spaces --the Jewish towns and communities of Poland, and the tenements of the Lower East Side. It is a dream to be working with the teens of Abrons Art Center/ Henry Street Settlement's Urban Youth Theater (and their incredible teaching director) to explore what it means to restage this play now, in the same place, over 100 years later.

You can read about the project and the story behind it here.

Thanks to Asylum Arts/ The Neighborhood for the initial support for the project. Thanks to Abrons Arts Center for seeing this story;s promise. Thanks to @nyfacurrent for being a stellar fiscal sponsor!
